Unamata could be banned in Zimbabwe

Piksy’s popular song Unamata released late last year as a single might not be able to enjoy airtime on Zimbabwean airwaves.

According to an article that appeared on one of Malawi’s lifestyle websites www.urbanlifemw.com Unamata can be heard as a vulgar song to Shonas.

“The song has enjoyed the local air-waves, but play it to someone who knows Shona or someone who hails from Mugabe land, they will tell you point blank, Unamata is a vulgar song. As long as Mugabe is still alive, the song will never see air play on Zimbabwe’s local radio station,” asserts the website.

They, however, go on to state that one advantage though, is that the song could be a hit on the Mashonaland underground music scene and that could make Unamata the most popular song in Zimbabwe.

However, music promoter Jai Banda has dismissed such claims as false saying the spelling and pronunciation of the word in Chichewa and Shona differ. “They are two different words,” said Banda.
