Unicef to train coaches in Chitipa at K700 000

Unicef has sponsored a five-day course for 35 coaches in Chitipa North Constituency at a cost of K700 000 (about $1 400).

The training, which is expected to start today, will be facilitated by officials from Sports Council and the Northern Region Coaches Association (NRCA).

Chitipa District sports organiser Rolland Harawa told Nation on Sunday on Thursday that the support is Unicef’s fulfilment of a request made by communities in the area where the organisation is implementing some projects.

“This is one of the capacity building projects communities asked Unicef to fund. As of now, we have the money and we will start the course on Sunday. We are expecting to have participants from Ilengo and Njelengwa zones in Chitipa North,” said Harawa.

NRCA executive member Etson Kadenge Mwafulirwa, who will be one of the instructors said participants will be equipped with basic coaching skills.

“This is called a preparatory course, where learners will acquire basic coaching skills such as qualities of a good coach, what a good pass is, and how to plan for a training session. The learners will later undergo a step up course for a FAM-C licence that will be conducted by FAM technical director John Kaputa next year,” said Mwafulirwa.
