Unima Council head tours Poly project

University of Malawi (Unima) Council chairperson the  Reverend Billy Gama yesterday toured projects at The Polytechnic, a Unima constituent college in Blantyre.

During the tour, Gama said he was impressed with the progress at the site, saying upon completion, The Polytechnic will be one of the best public universities where research and development for higher education will be taking place.

The project which includes the engineering building, the commerce structure, the mining hub and the Online Distance Learning (ODL) and Information Communication Technology (ICT) business centre.

The Polytechnic principal Grant Kululanga said the new infrastructure will create an additional 2 000 spaces for learners.

He said the new laboratory will have the best equipment which will put the institution at par with Western universities and supersedes some from the southern African region.

“We want to commercialise knowledge and we can only do this through interface between industry and higher education,” he said.

The new infrastructure is being constructed under Skills Development Project, the Public Private Partnership, Higher Education Science and Technology, Public Sector Investment Programme and the Computer Numerical Control Project. n
