Unima Golden Jubilee party changes venue

Celebrations to mark the golden jubilee of the University of Malawi (Unima) slated for this Saturday have been shifted from Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre to College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex within the commercial capital.
In a statement made available to The Nation, Unima Central Office said, however, that activities for the celebrations to be presided over by President Peter Mutharika, who is the Chancellor of the university, remain the same.

In the statement, Unima said due to the change of venue, the five parades by cohorts of graduates streamlined by a period of a decade from 1965, which was expected to march to the tune of Malawi Police and Malawi Defence Force (MDF) brass bands from Blantyre Civic Centre to Kamuzu Stadium have also changed their route.
Unima is the country’s first and oldest public university established after independence in 1965. Until 1998 when Mzuzu University (Mzuni) was established, Unima remained the sole public university with five constituent colleges—The Polytechnic, Chancellor College, Bunda College of Agriculture, CoM and Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN).
Two years ago, Bunda College was delinked to form Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar). 
