Unlicensed ‘clinician’ accused of causing death of four

Police in Ntchisi have arrested a man for alleged murder, criminal negligence and operating a clinic without a licence.

Ntchisi Police Station spokesperson Gladson M’bumpha identified the suspect as Clifford Chimtengo, 48.

He said the suspect operated a mobile clinic on June 14 where he injected four unsuspecting patients at Joshua Village in the district.

“The suspect used to operate a mobile clinic and on June 14, he administered an injection and tablets to four people, namely Bizaliyeli Kapolo, 65, Alice Kapolo, 60, Yohane Chipokosa, 68, and Livinesi Kapolo, 56.

 M’mbumpha said a few hours later, all the four victims fainted and were rushed to Ntchisi District Hospital where they were treated as in-patients. He said one of the victims, Livinesi Kapolo, died on Saturday.

Police recovered different medical drugs and equipment from the suspect and some of the drugs expired in 2016.

The suspect will appear in court soon to answer charges of murder, criminal negligence and operating a clinic without a licence.

Chimtengo comes from Mawalu Village,Traditional Authority (T/A) Malenga in the district.
