UP for ODF in Dowa
United Purpose (UP)says it intends to make Dowa an open defaecation free (ODF) district by the end of this year.
Meanwhile, the organisation has embarked on a campaign to help Dowa attain ODF status. Currently, only three out of the seven Traditional Authorities—Dzoole, Chakhaza and Kayembe—were certified ODF areas.
Speaking on Tuesday during a Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (Wash) stakeholders meeting held in Mponela in the district, UP programme manager Smorden Tomoka said the organisation is geared to meet the target.
Dowa District acting director of planning and development Martin Pindamkono described the meeting as a platform where non-governmental organisations working in the district share knowledge and information on improvement of water, sanitation and hygiene in Dowa.
