Malawian organisations based in the United States of America (USA)will tomorrow hold a virtual benefit concert to support Malawi’s ongoing coronavirus (Covid-19) response efforts.
The concert, dubbed PPE4Malawi: Virtual Benefit Concert, will be held from 7pm Malawian time.
In a statement, the Malawi Diaspora Network (MDN) says the virtual concert will take place through popular streaming platforms Facebook page, MDN, YouTube Southern Africa Connect and Eventbrite.
“The objective of the concert is to raise funds for the Covid-19 response initiative which seeks to provide life-saving Personal Protective Equipment [PPE] like masks, gloves, and gowns for front-line healthcare workers so that Malawi can act immediately and collectively in its response,” reads part of the statement.
According to the statement, the virtual concert is a collective effort of Malawian talent based in the USA and Malawi. The concert will feature talent from Malawi and the Malawian Diaspora, including popular DJs and musicians.
“Some of the featured artists who will be providing unique performances specifically for the concert include musicians like Temwah, Suffix, Masauko Chipembere and Peter Mawanga and the Amaravi Movement and others,” said Linda Semu, one of the organisers of the concert and a member of the Malawi Diaspora Network.
The line-up has some of Malawi’s popular DJs such as DJ E-Dub, DJ Kenoree and DJ Lana.
One of the artists scheduled to perform, Suffix said he is looking forward to performing at the event.
He said: “I think creatives have a voice and the capability to reach out to the masses on Covid-19, especially on awareness and sensitisation.”
The goal is to raise $15 000 for this cause through the crowd sourcing site: Go Fund Me: MDN Covid-19 PPEs For Healthcare Workers in Malawi.
MDN is a coalition of non-partisan US-based registered Malawian organisations collaborating to address issues of concern to Malawians at home and throughout the world.
