Use 2014 polls to bring change you need—Nice

The National Initiative for Civic Education (Nice) Trust has urged the electorate in Mangochi to use the 2014 Tripartite Elections to usher in leaders who can bring the change people need.

Nice district civic education officer for Mangochi, Turner Banda, said this last week at Mtuwa Market in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Chowe in the district during a civic and voter education campaign the trust conducted in the area.

He asked the electorate not to elect leaders based on their names, popularity and handouts they give out.

“Vote for leaders who are visionary and keen on the community,” he said.

Banda said voting based on political party affiliation and tribal lines instead of a vision a leader has would result in untold misery to many people.

“We need leaders who can really get to the bottom of chronic problems [Malawi is facing] and bring Malawians together with a common goal of developing our country,” he said.

Banda also asked voters to verify their names when the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) opens the centres next week for the exercise to enable them to vote in the polls.
