Ailing musicians ‘Soldier’ Lucius Banda and his elder brother ‘Sir’ Paul Banda continue to receive moral and financial support from all corners of society. The latest group to offer their support is the UTM Party youth who have organised a fundraising big walk dubbed Walk of Love in Balaka.

In an interview, the event’s leader Fredokiss, real name Penjani Kalua, said they decided to host the big walk to do their part in helping their fellow UTM member Lucius.

He said: “UTM is a party of love. We are the red army, the red brigade. Red is a colour of love and we love Lucius Banda. Our love for him extends to his whole family; hence, combining our support with his big brother Paul.”

Fredokiss: Everybody loves Lucius

Fredokiss said UTM wants to show Lucius that it appreciates him by holding this separate initiative to contribute to his treatment.

“We want to raise funds for him as a member of UTM but also a music legend alongside his brother Paul. So, concerned UTM youth are leading this particular initiative,” he said.

Fredokiss said the day will start with a football and netball bonanza in the morning at Balaka Stadium.

“Then we will do the ‘walk of love’ where we will be playing Lucius and Paul Banda’s music only. We will have fun while raising funds. We want to raise a minimum of K1 million,” he said.

The artist-cum-politician said the UTM Party loves Lucius and it will do anything to help.

“We want to give the money directly to the family. The family is in the better position to handle the funds,” he said.

Fredokiss said those who are away from Balaka can make their contribution through a number the party will share.

Meanwhile, ‘Soldier’ has released a single Ndinu Yemweyo in aid of his and Paul’s health.

The two have kidney problems with Paul requiring an urgent transplant. Both need to seek treatment outside Malawi.

Wrote Banda on his Facebook page: “You can buy the song at K500. All proceeds will go towards Paul and Lucius’ medical bills. To get the song Ndinu Yemweyo please download the app MobTech Music App on Google Play and buy the song via the app.”

He also paid tribute to his fans for standing by him during a difficult period.

“Thank you all for the support you are giving me and my family. It is really a beautiful thing to be surrounded by people who love and care for each other like the way you are doing. We all are improving. God is being wonderful.”

The gospel song praises God in both good and tough times and calls on people to rely on Him regardless of the situation.

Ndinu yemweyo, wadzulo, walero, wamawa. Ndinu yemweyo munadzutsa Lazaro kumanda,” sings the artist in part on the chorus.

So far, his fans continue to wish him and Paul a speedy recovery.

“Soldier, I am with you in prayers. You and your brother will get through these hills and valleys. Our God will never leave you alone,” wrote Amos Kaunda on Facebook.
