VAM shifts national finals to Lilongwe

The Volleyball Association of Malawi (VAM) has shifted finals and the third-place match of the National Volleyball Championships from Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) to Lilongwe Community Centre ground this weekend.

All the games were supposed to wind up last Sunday at the BYC, but that did not happen because BYC has no floodlights to facilitate action when darkness falls.

The finals have moved to Lilongwe after the organises’ short-notice booking for the indoor court at College of Medicine was rebuffed.

However, considering that the finalists, defending champions Lilongwe Spikers and Kamuzu Barracks, are based in Lilongwe, it was found to be cost-effective and logical to have the finals moved to Lilongwe, according to VAM publicist Ronald Mpaso.

“Even Blue Eagles, who will play against Mzuzu-based Moyale Barracks in the third-placed match, are based in Lilongwe,” said Mpaso.

Lilongwe Spikers are looking for a third successive national title whereas Kamuzu Barracks want to taste the glory for the first time after being runners-up twice.
