The categories include best male, female, urban-hip hop/rap music, acoustic, up-and-coming band, all time band, choral traditional, gospel, reggae/dancehall and song of the year 2012/2013.

The others are special media, stage performance as well as up-and-coming artist.

“The awards will raise the celebrity status of our artists. They will be encouraged to work harder than before and will feel appreciated and hence making music a reputable and respected profession as done elsewhere in the world,” explained MAM president Chimwemwe Mhango.

The awards’ partners, Media Corp and Trocadero Consulting, made a survey and came up with nominees and people will vote for the winners.

“The codes that are against each nominee and which are available to the public for voting, are being used for voting which runs from Monday to Friday midday. To vote, send the code of your favourite artist to 50506 and you instantly get a notification that your vote for the said artists has been received,” explained Mhango.

The special category of life time achiever will be disclosed on the gala night with each of the awardees getting a trophy and some cash prizes.
