Vice-President Saulos Chilima has expressed admiration for the resilience and commitment Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church members showed by organising saturation revival meetings broadcast live on television and radio stations nationwide last month.

Speaking at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Thursday where the meetings were taking place, Chilima called on the congregation to continue supporting each other and always adopt the spirit of giving for successful completion of such meetings.

“As Christians, we need to show faith in our actions and deeds just as Jesus Christ did. I, therefore, encourage you all to continue patronising the meetings and give as much as you can,” he said.

Chilima said government will continue to foster and uphold the right to worship so that people are able to pray as they wish and receive the blessings they need.

“Government and religious denominations are partners in development, which is why we are grateful for the role SDA Church plays in the development of this country in different sectors such as health and education,” he said.

In his remarks, SDA Church in Malawi president Pastor Frackson Kuyama thanked Chilima for attending the meeting, saying it was assuring to have leaders who support the religious community.

The daily one-hour evangelistic meetings started from September 3 to September 30 with Pastor Tony Yolamu Nyirenda from Blantyre as the main preacher.

About 4 000 people were baptised during the period. n
