Peter Wadabwa’s wife Chrissy Sitima was killed in a car accident on Monday night in Zimbabwe while travelling to Malawi, the Golden Arrows winger confirmed from South Africa yesterday.

“She was travelling to Malawi from Botswana where her parents work. I got a call from the parents last night that she was involved in a car accident after hitting a cow in Bulawayo.

“It was only today that they broke the news that she died, but the baby survived the accident and is in hospital,” said the 29-year-old player.

Burial arrangements were sketchy as we went to press as Wadabwa indicated that the deceased’s parents would travel to Bulawayo to either take the body back to Botswana then proceed to Malawi or travel straight from Bulawayo to Malawi.

Former Escom official Lawson Nakoma also confirmed the tragedy yesterday. “It’s so sad indeed,” Nakoma mourned yesterday.

Wadabwa married in December 2011 at Limbe Cathedral at a ceremony that attracted players such as Sankhani Nyirenda, Limbikani Mzava, Joseph Kamwendo and then Flames coach Kinnah Phiri.

Wadabwa was a member of the Flames squad that graced the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations fields in Angola.

He has of late seen limited club and national team action.

Wadabwa played for Escom before signing for Thanda Royal Zulu then, getting signed by Amazulu last season.
