Lightweight boxer Crispin Moliati returns to the ring on Sunday against John Masamba. Moliati lost to Salimu Chazama three months ago.

The two will lock horns at Waka Waka Hotel on March 2 in Lilongwe in a 12-round non-title fight.

The fight has been organised by Gomez Boxing Promotions, but financed by Waka Waka management.

The winner will take home K130 000 (about $325) while the loser will receive K70 000 ($175).

“This is another big fight on our cards. We thank Waka Waka management for financing this fight. As promoters, we cannot do everything on our own. We need some injection from partners in boxing,” said Gomez Boxing Promotions director Gomezgani Mwandira in an interview with The Nation on Monday.

This will be the fourth fight between Masamba and Moliati. Masamba will go into the ring as an underdog, after he lost all previous fights against him.

Masamba could not be reached for comment, but Moliati was optimistic about carrying the day on Sunday.

“I am in shape and I will show my fans that I am as good as ever. People counted me as spent force after I lost to Chazama. I will prove my worth on Sunday,” said Moliati.
