Troubled ‘Mighty’ Be Forward Wanderers main supporters committee has appointed renown private practice lawyer Chancy Gondwe as the club’s new chairperson, replacing Simon Sikwese who resigned a fortnight ago.

The Nomads main supporters committee chairperson Melvin Nkunika also confirmed the appointment of Limbani Magomero as first vice-chairperson, Fadwick Matemba as general secretary and the return of Mphatso Chika as treasurer.

Gondwe: There are some issues we are discussing

Matemba and Chika replace Victor Maunde and Robert Mbedza respectively, who also threw in the towel two weeks ago amid the confusion that has rocked the Lali Lubani Road outfit.

Chris Kananji has been demoted to second vice-chairperson while Adelaide Migogo and Dan Nkumba have been maintained as vice-general secretary and vice-treasurer respectively.

Migogo remains the only female member in the male-dominated executive committee.

But Nkunika said the confirmation of the new set-up awaits the approval of the club’s board of trustees headed by Rashid ‘Rashy’ Gaffar, who is also Minister of Mining.

“We also expect to get confirmations from all those that have been appointed by close of business today [yesterday],” he said.

In an interview yesterday, Gondwe said: “There are certain issues that we are discussing and upon concluding later today [yesterday], that is when I will be in a position to say whether I have accepted or not. But we are making progress on the discussions.”

Sikwese resigned as chairperson after faulting the supporters committee’s move to suspend the executive committee. Yesterday, he refused to comment on the latest developments.

According to the club’s constitution, the supporters committee has no mandate to elect an executive committee outside an elective annual general meeting.
