Wanderers technical panel accused of sabotage

Be Forward Wanderers general secretary Mike Butao has made startling claims that some members of the technical panel are contributing to the team’s poor showing through acts of sabotage.

Butao, who also heads the Nomads’ technical committee, said: “How can people who are outside the committee be holding night time meetings with members of the technical panel before games? For what purpose?

“Some of us have no time for such dirty tactics. The team should always come first.”

Asked whether the club has taken any action on the allegations, Butao said: “The issue is still under investigation, but we are aware of what is happening behind the scenes.”

However, he could not be drawn to divulge the names of the technical panel members in question.

He also dismissed suggestions that the allegations are aimed at finding a scapegoat for the team’s poor showing.

“As I said, there is a group of people who pretend to love the team, but do not really wish the team well.

“And when these people are not in the committees, they will do anything to sabotage the people running the club to make them fail so that they should come in,” said Butao.

Wanderers coach Elia Kananji confirmed having heard about the issue.

“I have heard about such reports, but no name has been mentioned. There is a lot being said against some technical panel members, officials and players, but there is nothing concrete that has come out of these allegations,” he said. n
