Pictures posted on social media, including Instagram, have shown wanted Cashgate suspect Limumba Karim partying in South Africa in the company of musician Tay Grin.

Karim is answering charges relating to money laundering alongside former budget director in the Ministry of Finance Paul Mphwiyo and 16 others in the K2.4 billion Cashgate case.

Private practice lawyer Wapona Kita told the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mary Kachale before he stopped representing the suspect that Karim had been unwell and was in South Africa receiving medical attention.

However, Kita could not provide proof to that effect.

Wants suspect arrested: Kachale

One picture sourced from Instagram dated January 8 2017 shows Karim holding a drink in his hand, standing near another musician named Rudebuoy Major and Tay Grin. The location on the post showed Taboo Night Club.

This prompted Kachale on Monday to ask High Court judge Esme Chombo to issue an arrest warrant for the suspect after he again failed to turn up for the  hearing  of the case.

Kita refused to comment yesterday when The Nation sought to know the status of his former client’s health in South Africa.

He said: “I cannot comment on a client I stopped representing.”

While Kachale told the court this week that police would act on the matter, National Police spokesperson James Kadadzera said they have not yet started discussing with International Police (Interpol) to help the local law enforcers in hunting Karim. n

  1. This is what we have been saying about selective justice that the DPP govt is pursuing.
Everybody knows that Limumba is a DPP sympathiser and very good friends with Tay Grin the son of Mrs Kalirani the Dowa DPP stogie.
The DPP govt knows where Limumba is hiding and they will never issue a warrant of arrest with Interpol to get him back……The money that this Limumba stole was for all Malawians including the very same Lomwes who are hiding this man………….I hope all sensible Malawians will know what to do come 2019.
