We can fight for league title—Civil Sporting

Civil Sporting Club coach Franco Ndawa believes his side can challenge favourites Silver Strikers, Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers to win the TNM Super League title.

The Civil Servants on Sunday beat stubborn Nchalo United 2-1 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe to hit 23 points, seven behind leaders Silver Strikers who have played a game more.

Ndawa: We can do it

Civil are a point behind third-placed defending champions Wanderers and five behind second placed Bullets.

In an interview after the match, Ndawa said his side has a chance to win the title.

“We are not favourites but we have to believe in ourselves that we can challenge for the title,” he said.

Ndawa said the key was for his side to treat every game with utmost seriousness.

“Against Nchalo, I felt that the players had a mentality that they are a walkover. That is why at half time we were tied 1-1. We must avoid casual approaches for every game matters in the title contest,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nchalo dropped deeper in the relegation mire after falling from position 14 to 15 following the loss to Civil. They have 10 points from 14 games.

Their coach McDonald Yobe admitted that it will be a tall order to survive relegation.

“We shall continue fighting for survival. It won’t be easy though. I just hope that we will improve in the next round,” he said.
