Suzgo Nyirenda feb14 | The Nation OnlineFAM has said it will no longer hunt for national cup competitions as the three that are currently available are enough.

Currently, FAM runs three competitions, namely the Presidential Cup, Standard Bank Trophy and the Carlsberg Cup.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda on Thursday boasted that they are satisfied with three cups, adding another competition would affect logistics.

“Our position is that three cups are enough to run for a season and adding another one would create logistical problems, especially when we are trying to harmonise our calendar. We have enough on our plate for the time being.

“We would, therefore, urge organisations and companies that would want to venture into football sponsorship to consider clubs and other pre-season tournaments,” said Nyirenda.

He also said companies and organisations can consider sponsoring tournaments at regional and youth level to complement the tournaments that are already there, thereby helping in the development of the game.

“We would also encourage companies to consider sponsoring the national teams,” he said.
