We’ll only inherit genuine debts—BB new boss

Big Bullets FC new chairperson Sam Chilunga has said his leadership is ready to inherit genuine debts that were incurred by the previous leadership led by Kondi Msungama.

Addressing a press briefing in Blantyre yesterday where Chilunga, alongside treasurer Noel Lipipa and vice-general secretary Kelvin Moyo were officially unveiled, the chairperson said: “We will not run away from debts, but we will only inherit legitimate debts.

“Key element on the debts is to verify the debts first. This is very key as we need to come up with finances i.e. a balance sheet of the team. So we can only discuss methodologies or plans of settling the debt after we know the legitimate debt.

“By the way, I have never seen a company, no matter how rich it is without debt, hence let us do first things first. Once the verification process is done, we will come up with a plan and this will depend on the budget and cash flow but let me emphasise only the legitimate debts.”
Chilunga and Lipipa also said their coming is a service to the team and they do not expect to benefit in terms of allowances.

The Bullets boss also said the key aspect as they get down to work will be to rebrand.

“Rebranding does not always cost much. For example, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) ushered in a new leader [Lazarus Chakwera] and similarly DPP [Democratic Progressive Party] took on board a young man [Saulos Chilima], that is part of rebranding,” he said.

Among other things, Chilunga said they are planning to go into partnership with an unnamed company to come up with supporters’ database which will be key to meeting the club’s targeted initiatives.

Speaking earlier, the club’s main supporters committee chairperson Stone Mwamadi and secretary Mabvuto Chibambo welcomed the new leadership and urged them to be united.
“We are looking forward to a good working relationship and no one should be sidelined in the operations of the team and there should be no short cuts in as far as making crucial decisions is concerned. Otherwise, welcome on board and we pledge our full support,” said Mwamadi.
