The Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Ertharin Cousin is in the country on two-day trip to visit flood affected communities.

The visit comes as Malawi recovers from the devastating floods which have affected more than a million people and left some 600,000 in need of food assistance.

chikwawa_donationWhile in Malawi, Cousin will travel to Mangochi district to see school feeding, meet smallholder farmers supplying schools with produce and visit a flood-affected community that is receiving WFP food assistance and participating in early recovery activities.

During the visit, the WFP Executive Director will meet leading government officials, members of the donor community; WFP’s implementing partners and flood–affected people.

Cousin will be accompanied to Mangochi by journalists representing international and local media organisations.
