Brown, who is based at WFP headquarters in Rome, Italy, expressed the sentiments on Thursday when she visited the district to appreciate nutrition activities.

“I am impressed with the community engagement in the interventions to improve nutrition in the district and this must continue,” she said.

Brown said at Kadango Village in Traditional Authority Kalumo, for instance, she observed that traditional leaders, care group members and the community actively participate in nutrition activities as evidenced by the presence of backyard gardens and hand-washing facilities in most households.

WFP country director Benoit Thiry pledged his organisation’s continued support to the district in nutrition activities.

“Together with the district council, we will ensure that what is taking place in this village is also replicated in all other villages in the district,” he said.

Anna Palikesi, a community member, said the nutrition status of her family has improved. She said she cultivates vegetables in her backyard.

Before visiting the village, the team also visited the nutrition rehabilitation unit at the district hospital.
