When religion meets the arts

After staging their play Beyond Measure to audiences at Blantyre’s lush Sunbird Mount Soche Hotel earlier this year, The Parables are coming out with yet another thought-provoking play, Unanswered Questions, 10 days before Christmas.

The Parables, a non-denominational group of performing artists, fuse drama, music and counselling to push forth the message of God mainly to secondary school students and the public.

According to director of The Parables, Bayana Chunga, Unanswered Questions is a play that focuses on some fundamental theological issues that have rocked mankind for thousands of years.

“From both the Old and New Testament, mankind has failed to understand God’s sovereignty on suffering and injustice. This has led to fundamental questions that largely remain unanswered in the minds of many people.

“Unanswered Questions is a story of tension as Mr and Mrs Chigwada, a committed couple in a church choir, wrestle to understand God’s sovereignty in their lives,” explains Chunga.

The play comes with a cast of actors who include performer from Beyond Measure Jeremiah Chienda and Wongani Vinkhumbo.

“With a cast of nine talented actors, Unanswered Questions promises to excite and challenge people at the same time on the theology of suffering. The Chigwada family represents today’s Christian who has nothing but unanswered questions to God,” says Chunga.
