William Murray Secondary School (Wimuss) Alumni Association in Lilongwe have renovated the school’s plumbing system which had been faulty for years.

The group’s chairperson Apostle Helix Jaxon Chigonammalunje said the former students discovered the school’s challenges following an assessment which was influenced by the school’s dwindling performance.

“We observed that the school’s performance was going down and a delegation discovered the school’s sanitary condition was a major factor,” he said.

Chigonam’malonje said the blocked plumbing system made students spend more time searching for water to use instead of focusing on their studies.

The alumni contributed K2.1 million to buy materials to fix the system.

“We are happy now that the system is back and we are already strategising on our next area of focus because there are many challenges that need our attention,” he said.

The school’s plumber Benson Sankhani said in an interview on Thursday that all works on the plumbing system would be completed by today in readiness for the opening of the school term.

The group started in 2016 and has 200 members within Malawi and abroad. n
