Winning souls through media

Listen to this article

Today, the church faces one of the serious challenges—lack of active participation of youths in its daily activities. Virtually, most youths in the church act as spectator ions and never move beyond attending church services—if at all—to be actively involved in its core business, which includes the mission of God.

It is argued that youths do not fully embrace the business of the church on the pretext that they are committed to worldly issues yet as the majority, the youth constitute the future of the church; hence, the need to tame them.

But a wind of change has started blowing across the church with one youthful pastor Peter Banda from Lilongwe championing the ministry through the power of the media.

He is the founder and pastor of Miracle Media International Ministries (MMIM) in Area 25’ Sector 8, Lilongwe.

Banda said: “This ministry is based on a vision which strives to be a leading ministry of God which serves people through the power of the media. You may ask why using the media? We are both in technological era and church-based entrepreneurship which seek to create employment for young people and serve the lost souls.”

He added that he wants to utilise the power of the media to reach out to many youths across the country and impact their lives through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Apart from recording church services and sharing sermons and prayers through social networking sites such as Facebook and WhatsApp, MMIM has a television programme called ‘Time For Hope’ on Luso TV which is beamed every Saturdays.

Established over four years ago, the ministry has grown to international status with partners from across the world and multimedia company which employs over 10 youths.

MMIM has its main Miracle Worship Centre in Lilongwe’s Area 25, Sector 8.

Banda said MMIM capitalises on technology to come up with different media-related programmes to attract the youth and reach out to them with the word of God.

He added that the ministry has over a thousand representations of youths and adults through its different branches and networks across the country.

“Basically, we are a ministry that responds to the needs of youths in the country. For this reason, we create our programmes systematically. We do organise talent and music shows, special seminars on entrepreneurship, business, personal, professional and spiritual grooming,” said Banda.

According to Banda, MMIM has also a charity part called Miracles Partners for Outreach Activities which caters for vulnerable groups such as the elderly. At the same time, the charity ministry introduces young people to social work, which helps to uplift the society. n
