Woget Stars beat Glass Bank Again

Barely a week after beating Glass Bank Sisters 34-29 to win the Blantyre Urban title of the Presidential Netball Championship, Woget Stars flattened their rivals again in the Southern Region finals at the Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) with a 43-29 triumph.

The Stars have kept a foothold on both the district and regional titles for the fourth successive time. They have made it into the national finals where they will be seeking a maiden national glory against seeded teams such as defending champions Escom Sisters, Bingu Tigresses and MTL Queens.

“It has always been predictable for us to win the district and the regional contest, but we are now trying to look for a formula that can help us take the national crown.

“With the experience we had at the national finals in the last three events, we are confident of achieving this feat this year and we are not turning back,” said Woget Stars chairperson Dalitso Ameera Chinyama.

On her part, team manager, Veronica Chigaula, said they accepted the loss and they would try to work hard in the next event.

Woget received K200 000 (about $800) and a trophy for winning the regional finals whereas Glass got K150 000 (about $600). Young Ideas beat Varibo Sisters 41-34 in the third-place encounter to take home K100 000 (about $400). Varibo Sisters got K80 000 (about $320).
