A sombre mood engulfed Mkotsano Village in Traditional Authority Chakhaza’s area in Dowa last weekend following the death of a 56-year-old woman due to excessive intake of illicit gin, kachasu.
Godfrey Chimbalanga, an officer at Bowe Police Unit in the district, identified the deceased as Naliyeti Jazimoni from Mkotsano Village.
“On this fateful day, the woman took alcohol on an empty stomach and on her way home, she collapsed and died on the spot. She was discovered by passers-by hours later who reported
the matter to our office,” said Chimbalanga.
“We are, therefore, appealing to members of the community to avoid taking excessive beer on an empty stomach to avoid similar deaths,” said Chimbalanga.
