A 32-year-old woman was allegedly killed after picking a quarrel with a fellow woman, 23, yesterday at a drinking joint in Nkhata Bay.

Nkhata Bay Police Station spokesperson Kondwani James confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Angellina Zimba and the suspect as Funny Phiri from Mfufu Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Malanda in Nkhata Bay.

James: She lost a lot of blood

He said Zimba was in bar when Phiri provoked her, but she avoided her and went outside. However, Phiri pursued Zimba despite people trying to stop her.

James said Phiri later picked a broken glass bottle and threw it at Zimba who suffered a cut on the neck and bled profusely. She was rushed to Nkhata Bay District Hospital where she died while receiving treatment.

“I can confirm that the victim has died after losing a lot of blood. She was rushed to the hospital, but could not survive.

“Such incidents can be avoided. The law will catch up with those that engage in such habits,” said James. Meanwhile, police are hunting for the suspect who is at large
