Women in Ntchisi, with support from ActionAid, have formed movement groups to speak with one voice on various issues.

Speaking on Tuesday in Traditional Authority Kalumo, ActionAid  cluster programme (Central Region) officer Masozi Mkandawire said the groups will also enable the women to work together to achieve their goals.

She said: “The groups will act as a mouthpiece for all issues affecting women at cluster, village development committee, traditional authority as well as district level.

Nkhwinjiri: Women will channel
grievances through the groups

“Gone are the days when women were looked down upon. We want women to be given opportunities like their male counterparts.”

Ntchisi District Women Forum executive director Kate Chiundira described the establishment of the  groups as a welcome development which will enhance unity among women in the district.

“Through the groups, women will speak with one voice, which will help to reduce gender-based violence in the district by 2022,” she said.

Kalumo Women Movement executive team member Alice Nkhwinjiri said they will now channel their grievances through the groups.

The project is run with financial support from the Spotlight Initiative, a Malawi Government programme funded by the European Union and the United Nations to eliminate violence against women.
