Women’s team lose to Tanzania
The Malawi women football team yesterday marked their return to international football with a 0-2 defeat to hosts Tanzania at Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.
According to Football Association of Malawi (FAM) official Chris Mdolo, who is with the team, Tanzania scored their opener in the last minute of the first half through Aisha Malala’s strike before making a final flourish late in the second half.
He said despite Temwa Chawinga, younger sister to Sweden-based Malawi international Tabitha Chawinga, emerging as the best performer with her cryptic dribbles and passes, the country’s flag carriers could not cope with the overall pressure from the Tanzanians.
“We sometimes looked intimidating to the home side, but we lacked firepower. All the same, we have learnt some lessons,” Mdolo said through a Whatsapp interview. n
