He said Ndhlovu’s employer, Sophie Mtonga, conducted an audit of items in the shop and discovered that sales for TNM airtime were not adding up.

The employer also noticed the suspect had altered some of the figures prompting her to report the matter to police who later arrested Ndhlovu.

Chapola said Ndhlovu was employed in 2013 as a TNM airtime salesperson at the filling station.

He said: “The owner of the shop recently conducted a stock taking exercise where she noted the suspect had altered some cash figures and that money amounting to K2 388 500 was unaccounted for.

“The matter was reported to police who arrested the suspect and she confessed to have stolen the said amount of cash,” said Chapola.

Ndhlovu is expected to appear before court to answer a charge of theft by servant. n
