WVM in disaster preparedness drive

World Vision Malawi (WVM) has embarked on a disaster preparedness project in Ntchisi District.

WVM food security coordinator for Ntchisi, Dowa and Kasungu districts Victor Chimombo said the communities are being trained in hazard identification, identification of vulnerabilities, capacity and coping mechanisms.

“The trainings have a component on planning of community activities for mitigation, preparedness and prepositioning, feedback and sharing as well as reporting and monitoring,” he said.

Ntchisi district civil protection committee member Jemiter Mwale appealed to the participants to work hand in hand with his committee to reduce the impact of disasters in their areas.

“Whenever there is a disaster of any kind in your areas, please do not hesitate to report to our committee so we can see how best to control the impact,” he said.

The trainings are being held in traditional authorities (T/As) Kalumo, Vuso Jere and Nthondo in the district.n
