Yomtanga lift Mchinji Presidential Netball Cup

Yomtanga Sisters are the champions of Mchinji District Presidential Netball Cup after beating Mchinji Queens 23-5 in the final played at Misale CDSS in the district on Sunday.

Alinafe Nthani of Yomtanga was the top scorer after posting 16 baskets to lead her team to Presidential glory.

Sifati James scored all the five baskets for Mchinji Queens.

Both Yomtanga and Mchinji have made it to the regional finals to     be held in Lilongwe on a date yet to be announced.

It was a sigh of relief for businessperson Yona Mtanga who bankrolls Yomtanga Sisters.

“When you sponsor a team you want to get satisfaction. I am glad that today we can celebrate victory,” he said.

Mchinji district sports officer Martin Panyanja has urged the two teams not to relax but continue to train hard.

“We want you to go far in this competition and represent Mchinji well. For you to achieve more, you need to train hard,” he advised.

In third place play offs, Misale CDSS beat Misale Model Queens 7-5.

Yomtanga got K100 000 for being champions and the runners-up went home with K70 000.

Misale CDSS got K50 000 whereas Misale Model Queens received K30 000.

The tournament had 12 teams namely Kochilirira Sisters, Yomtanga Sisters, Mchinji Queens, Bua Sisters, Mbwelera Sisters, Walilanji Sisters, Pinda Sisters, Misale CDSS, Super Queens, Chinkoka Sisters, Kholoni Sisters and Misale Model Queens.n
