Yoneco in drug, alcohol abuse fight in Mangochi

Nkhotakota Police Station is keeping in custody 21-year old Evance Banda for allegedly defiling a 12-year-old girl.

According to station’s deputy spokesperson Paul Malimwethe, the suspect was employed by the victim’s grandmother as a houseboy five days before the incident.

In the early hours of November 20, the suspect is alleged to have sneaked into the victim’s bed room and when she woke up, she found Banda on top of her, she called for help.

He said her grandmother, who was sleeping in the next room came to her rescue.

The grandmother, according to Malimwethe, reported the matter to Nkhotakota Police who referred the victim to Nkhotakota District Hospital where medical examination confirmed that she was defiled.

Meanwhile, Banda is expected to appear before Nkhotakota First Grade Magistrate’s court to answer the charge of defilement contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code, according to Maliwethe.

“We are warning all would be offenders that police will not relent in bringing perpetrators of these offences to face the long arm of the law,” he said.

Banda comes from Zimba Village in the area of Traditional Authority  Malenga in Ntchisi District.
