“It is important to train young ones to conserve the environment so that they should grow with the spirit of appreciating the importance of nature,” he said.

In his remarks, Mulanje assistant district forestry officer David Bello said it is difficult to determine whether there is an improvement in environmental conservation in the district.

On his part, MMCT environmental education and communications programme officer Kondwani Chamwala described the day as important, saying all citizens should be involved in conserving the environment.

The event started with a big walk from Chitakale to Mulanje Park. n
