Youth ideas to kick off Lake of Stars

The 2016 Lake of Stars Festival kicks off this Friday with a new initiative to inspire the youth.

Called Day of Ideas, the new concept will see youths in the country being engaged in creativity, to be inspired and think of ways of improving Malawi.

“The event is set to happen on Friday at the festival location, Chinchethe Inn [in Nkhata Bay]. Programmed to run from 8am to 3pm, the audience shall be made up of 420 secondary school students from schools in Nkhata Bay, 50 students with hearing impairments, 30 Mzuzu University [Mzuni] students and 50 adults,” the organisers said in a statement.

The event is sponsored by the European Union (EU) and EU head of mission Michael Gerrmann is among those to attend.

“The programme is filled with fun and educative activities for the youth such as speed networking, various workshops centred on creativity, a pitch night-style platform, speeches and mini performances from festival artists and partners.

“The partners are mHub, Art for Global Health, Root to Fruit, Our World International and Beating Heart Malawi and the Menes, an artist in Malawi and Gabriel, an International DJ are also giving speeches,” adds the statement.

Meanwhile, Tay Grin, Diktator and Ril B have been added to the list of acts for the festival with Zambia’s Roberto, famous for the hit Amarula, announcing he will have two guest performers joining his live set.

The festival officially opens with box office opening at 12:30pm while music will start playing from 4pm and the first performance will be at 5:30pm. n
