Kachira Youth Initiatives (Kayi) has stressed the need for the youth in Karonga, especially those in secondary schools, to go for voluntary HIV test.

The group’s executive director William Ngwira made made the call on Saturday at Karonga Community Ground during a football bonanza competition aimed at motivating the youth to go for HIV test.

Ngwira (R) and Kalonga (C) encourage youths to go for HIV testing

He said many youths are prone to HIV because they indulge in immoral behaviour such as drug and substance abuse which lead them to prostitution.

“If we regard our youths as leaders of tomorrow, let us advise them to avoid risky behaviour that can make them contract the virus,” he said.

Traditional Authority Kalonga thanked Kayi for the initiative, saying it will go a long way in protecting the lives of the youth in the district.

The chief asked other organisations to emulate Kayi for the youth to change their behaviour.

He also said traditional leaders and parents have a role to play in monitoring their children and not influencing them to go into early marriages.

A youth from Baka Secondary School commended Kayi for the messages.

The football bonanza brought youths together from across the district.
