Youths urge parents to open up on SRH issues

Youths in Nkhotakota have urged parents to open up to their children on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) issues.

The youth said this on Saturday when Nkhotakota Community Radio  and Developing Radio Partners conducted an SRH awareness meeting at Liwaladzi Trading Centre.

Sambo: Youths have complained of mistreatment by SRH service providers

The participants observed that young people in the district have limited access to SRH services, a development reportedly fuelling premarital sex and teenage pregnancies.

In his remarks, Nkhotakota District Hospital youth friendly health services coordinator Emmanuel Chirambo bemoaned the low uptake of SRH services among the youth.

He advised youths in the lakeshore district to seek SRH services.

Zainab Sambo, one of the presenters on Nkhotakota Community Radio’s Let’s Talk for Change programme, said youths are failing to access SRH services due  negative attitude of service providers.

“Some youths complain of bad attitude displayed by service providers. This discourages youths from accessing SRH services,” she said.

Nkhotakota Community Radio programmes manager Edward Kuacha asked chiefs to stop cultural practices that make adolescents vulnerability to HIV and Aids. n
