Youths want capacity building on face masks

Youths in Nsanje district have asked government and development partners to provide them with the technical know-how of making face masks.

The appeal comes amid soaring numbers of Covid-19 cases in the country.

The youth, through their Nsanje Youth Network president SebaBonzo, urged authorities during a youth network gathering supported by Foundation for Civic Education and Social Empowerment (Focese) on Friday.

He said the district needs a lot of face masks to help prevent the spread of the pandemic.

“If the youth learn the skills on how to make face masks, more people will access them cheaply,” said Bonzo.

He also said the youth will be economically empowered through selling the face masks.

Focese executive director Christie Banda said the training was important as it will ensure that people get face masks easily.

“Making face masks will keep the youth away from indulging in risky behaviour,” she said.

Nsanje district youth officer Richard Juwawo appealed to stakeholders to consider the youth’s request.

Focese is working with Nsanje youths on a Youth Inclusive Participation Empowerment project with funding from Dan Church Aid.
