The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (Teveta) has awarded certificates to 80 youths from Lilongwe who underwent a two-week training in video production and screen printing.

The training was conducted with support from the Youth for Peace and Development (Ypad) and Teveta.

Speaking at the recent graduation ceremony at Biwi in Lilongwe, Ypad executive director Isaac Jere said they conducted the training as one way of empowering the youth economically.

“We want youths to be independent. The skills will help them to start business and be able to employ others. We also hope to reduce crime rates through this training,” said Jere.

Teveta regional service centre manager (central) Victor Luwambala highlighted the significance of the training.

“With only a laptop and camera, youths will be earning income through a lot of activities that require video and picture coverage such as parties and weddings. Others will be engaged in various screen printing activities,” said Luwambala.

He said the youth will be able to get soft loans for their businesses from the Opportunity Bank which has partnered the two organisations.

Opportinuty Bank educational and youth service manager Temwani Kamchewa said the bank will provide loans to all the graduates and other youths in the country who acquired skills from Teveta.
