Zomba Cycling Club has said it will fight for top honours during the Presidential Initiative on Sports (PIS) national championship next Thursday in Mzuzu.

The club’s chairperson Gibson Mitochi, who is also a cyclist, said this in an interview on Wednesday.

He said his team was let down by fuel shortage during the same competition last year and hinted on an early departure for Mzuzu this year.

“Last year, we arrived when the competition had already started and we did not take part. We will leave earlier this time around to acclimatise. We have prepared well and our aim is to finish on top,” said Mitochi.

As part of preparations, the team cycled from Zomba to Ulongwe in Balaka on Sunday. On Wednesday, they cycled to Ku Chawe.

The national finals will pool cycling clubs from Nkhata Bay, Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu and Zomba, among others.
