Malawian artists stand a chance of getting their work on international map following the coming of new channel Zambezi Magic 160, which is searching for local content in the form of films, soaps, drama, reality, comedy, lifestyle and documentaries.

Making the official announcement on Thursday at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre, Zambezi Magic alongside MultiChoice Malawi challenged Malawian film producers, directors, actors and actresses to seize the opportunity.

Zambezi Magic’ official Addiel Dzino described Malawi as one of the potential countries which could provide authentic material for the newly-launched channel.

“Malawi is one of the potential market for Zambezi Magic hence our coming to challenge producers, directors, actors and actresses to give us content. We are optimistic that Malawi will not disappoint us,” said Dzino.

Before the participants were taken into business talk, Zambezi Magic oriented local film makers including musicians on the concepts of suitable material for the new channel.

Basically, Zambezi Magic was looking for authentic stories from local producers that had the following brand attributes: entertaining, local, culturally relevant and regional resonance.

“If the stories can resonate with our views then we are in business. If they will resonate with the entire SADC region, that is a bonus,” said Dzino.

On his part, MultiChoice Malawi Marketing Manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda described the meeting as strategic, which helped to answer the most difficult questions on the quality and criteria of getting local films and music videos on M-Net channels.

“I hope Malawian artists will start doing what Zambezi Magic has just advised them to do,” said Nyirenda.

He added that Multichoice Malawi will act as a facilitator between M-Net channels such as Zambezi Magic and local artists’ bodies to ensure both parties benefit from the deal.
