Zambian arrested for trickery

Police on Saturday arrested a 32-year-old Zambian, identified as Derrick Thole, on suspicion that he obtained money by trickery in Mangochi District.

Balaka Police arrested Thole at Chingeni Roadblock after Mangochi Police Station alerted their colleagues nationwide.

Balaka Police Station head of criminal investigations department Maxwell Divala said Thole tricked a mobile money agent in Mangochi that he wanted to send K300 000 but ran away after the agent had processed the transaction without receiving the cash.

“With stashes of money, he took from his motor vehicle BAB 7685, the suspect ordered an agent to make the transaction and immediately it was done, he pretended to have received a call on his mobile and went back to his vehicle as if he wanted to take something. He hastily drove off,” said Divala.

It is suspected that Thole, who immediately went to cash the money from the agent it was sent to, has also committed similar offences in other districts, but he was not cornered.

Divala said Thole would be sent to Mangochi where he will answer an offence of obtaining money by trick. n
