The foundation made the statement at Golden Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Chikumbu in Mulanje when it handed over school blocks, a borehole, toilets, a resource centre, mosque as well as learning materials to people of Golden Village and the surrounding villages.

Speaking during the function, one of the foundation’s executive members Zane Haffejjee said they decided to donate the pieces of infrastructure because most people in the area have little or no access to quality education and water, and also lack conducive worship centres.

Haffejjee said current religious institutions should emulate early missionaries who came to Africa, especially here in Malawi, who apart from spreading the word of God, also provided for other needs of the people.

Zamzam project officer Ajilu Kalitendere appealed to the communities to own and protect the facilities.

“Let us develop the interest of preserving various local projects so that there should be no one countrywide lacking basic needs,” he said.

Group Village Head (GVH) Tambala commended Zamzam Foundation for the timely intervention and pledged to care for the facilities. n
