South Africa based Malawian diva, Zani Challe, continues to broaden her reach on the international music scene.
After featuring two of South Africa’s finest rappers Okmalumkoolkat and Ras in her first single Gwada, released in 2014, Zani has now secured a collaboration with Nigeria’s top reggae-dancehall artist Patoranking.
The latest release is titled Single Tonight ; produced, recorded and mixed by one of Nigeria’s celebrated producers, E Kelly.
The singer-cum-rapper has been in Nigeria working with E Kelly on new tracks.
The song comes after rumours that the 28-year-old was seeing a top Nigerian artist and Patoranking is the name fans have been suggesting.
Lately, Zani has been posting pictures on her Facebook and Instagram pages with the award-winning Nigerian superstar.
“I have been working on my new project with E Kelly who also does some work with Patoranking. So, since last year I’ve been telling my producer I want to work with Patoranking.
“He got to working on a beat for me that would suit the two of [and] by God’s grace I was lucky to get to chat to Patoranking and get into studio with him to work on this hit,” explained Zani Challe in an interview.
Zani disclosed that she has always wanted to get on a song with Patoranking and it was a dream come true for her, saying this was the best time as she is working on expanding her music reach to the rest of Africa.
“Since the hit song Girlie O [by Patoranking] I have always said ‘this guy is amazing and one day I will work with him’. What you put into the universe comes back. Here I am today and I can say I’ve worked with him,” said the cheerful Zani.
“He is such a talented, humble guy. Really creative. He made me feel so at ease and the work chemistry was just out of this world. We vibed in the studio and at the end of the day Single Tonight was born. Fun, laughs, and a lot of hard work is what got this song out,” she explained further.
Single Tonight is Zani Challe’s third single after Gwada and the locally-made 2015 track Ndiphunzitse, produced by Tricky Beats.
The new song was released on radio and online in Malawi, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa and Zambia. It is also available for purchase on iTunes.
Zani becomes the third Malawian artist to work with top Nigerian musicians after Tay Grin featuring 2Baba and Dan Lu featuring Kcee and Flavour N’abania or simply Flavour.
