Zathu Pa Wailesi targets 179 000 youth

Zathu Pa Wailesi, a new radio programme targeting the youth, says it is aiming at reaching 179 000 youth in Malawi on different platforms with the aim of bridging the socio- cultural gap.

The initiative kick-started with road shows in Zomba and Mangochi and later Mitundu in Lilongwe.

Zathu Pa Wailesi also airs a gripping drama that follows a group of six young Malawians as they work together to overcome challenges and follow their dreams. With characters such as Annetti (the survivor), T Reel (the arrogant one), Mphatso (the strong one), JP (the sensitive one), Xander (the good gu y) and Chikondi (the dreamer), the characters unfold interesting stories that echo the lives of millions of young people nationwide.

 Zathu Pa Wailesi has also formed Zathu Band, fusing a distinctly Malawian sound fused with modern rhythms. The band will be holding live performances, releasing singles and videos.

In an interview with The Nation, the brains behind Zathu Pa Wailesi-Girl Effect chief executive officer (CEO) James Kennedy, said the programme will help to bring girls and boys together to start their pilot project in Zomba, Machinga, Mzimba and Lilongwe.

Zathu pa wailesi is a brand new youth radio show filled with drama, musical and interaction that will aim to bridge the cultural gap between girls and boys. We wanted to create something new to bring boys and girls together,”said Kennedy.

The pilot project is in Zomba, Machinga, Mzimba and Lilongwe.

 The radio show will officially start broadcasting from April 24 on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation’s (MBC) Radio 2 FM ( Saturdays at 5pm), Zodiak  (Sundays at 1:30pm), Yoneco and Voice of Livingstonia ( Saturdays at 4:30pm).
