It was a sombre affair when members of Zembani Band bid farewell to their former manager Alexander Mkandawire who succumbed to meningitis at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) on Saturday.

Mkandawire was in and out of the hospital for the past three months, according to his cousin Happy Chabinga.

Zembani Band executive director Lucius Banda described Mkandawire as humble and talented man. He worked with Zembani from 1997 to 2010.

Banda said despite working together, their friendship dates back before he joined the band.

“He used to be one of our biggest fans before he joined the group. His death came to me like a shock though he had been sick on and off. You don’t come to terms with the reality that you will not see the person again, it’s very painful.

“When he came into the music industry this potential came to the limelight when we were doing music videos. He had special talent in video production even if you can check the videos he produced you would agree. His attitude with friends was admirable, rare to find nowadays,” said Banda.

Safanana Ng’oma, who worked with Mkandawire at Zembani, said he was a humble manager.

Born in 1976, Mkandawire is survived by a wife and a child. He was buried on Tuesday at Njobva Village, T/A Katumbi in Rumphi District.
