Malawian striker Zicco Mkanda scored again in Mozambique league when table-topping Liga Muculmana beat 13th-placed Textil de Pungue 4-2 at Stadium da Manga in Beira on Sunday.

Mkanda, who has five caps, has now scored four goals in the last two games having netted a hat-trick last week to make it eight Mocambola league goals this season.

“This is my second season in which I have managed to score eight goals, but I want to try and pass that mark this season. If I can maintain my good form, I believe it will be my time to go and play in a more advanced league,” Mkanda explained yesterday.

The other Muculmana scorers were Jerry, Avelino and Zimbabwean Liberty. Maxaquene’s Isak Cavalho, who is Simplex Nthala’s team mate, is the Mozambique league top scorer with 12 goals.

Muculmana top the 14-member league on 44 points from 24 games. In another game in Mozambique over the weekend, former Civo United winger Lazarous Chirwa scored in seventh-placed Chibuto’s 1-0 beating of Ferroviario De Quilimane.

In South Africa, Robert Ng’ambi played for Platinum Stars as they ousted Kaizer Chiefs from the quarterfinal of the Telkom Knock-Out Cup with a 5-3 post-match win on Sunday.

Harry Nyirenda also reportedly played for Black Leopards as they lost 1-0 to Royal Leopards in the National First Division on Sunday.

In Zimbabwe, Gerald Phiri was on the bench whereas George Nyirenda and Ishmael Thindwa featured in Caps United 2-1 loss to Trangle on Sunday in a Premier League match. Caps are third on the log table.
