Contacted to verify The Herald newspaper reports that Football Association of Malawi (FAM) were courting Pasuwa, Mahachi said while the Malawi FA had not formally approached his client, he cannot rule out that prospect.

“There is nothing formal, but if the advert comes out, why not give it a try? Pasuwa has the highest coaching qualification in Zimbabwe. He also has CAF B licence. Among his records as a coach, he led Dynamos to unprecedented four consecutive league titles,” said Mahachi, whose client has fallen out with Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) over unpaid dues.

FAM is expected to place an advert in the media inviting applications for the job which fell vacant after the sacking of coach Young Chimodzi last Sunday; a day after losing 1-2 to the then hastily assembled Warriors in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifier at   Kamuzu Stadium.

On Monday, FAM general secretary SuzgoNyirenda could not dismiss the Zimbabwe newspaper report entirely. FAM has never hired a foreign coach from within Africa.

“I have chatted with him [Pasuwa]; I always do. I have also chatted with Janza, Ian Gorowa and Paulo Duarte who called finding out when we will advertise the post. If the Zimbabwe coach applies, he will be considered. We want a coach who can inspire the team tactically. He [Pasuwa] showed that he is a good coach technically and tactically,” Nyirenda insisted.

Former BBC correspondent and Sports minister Moses Dossi on Sunday said Malawi has many qualified coaches capable of delivering the goods, citing Alex Masanjala. Locals   the late Henry Moyo and KinnahPhiri are the only ones to have steered the Flames to 1984 and 2010 Africa Cup of Nations respectively.
