Zimbabwean top side Caps United are facing a race against time in their bid to sign Mighty Wanderers star winger Gerald Phiri Junior and captain Foster Namwela as that country’s Premier Soccer League registration deadline closes today (Thursday).

However, Caps owner Twine Phiri, who doubles as the league’s chairperson, played down the issue, saying his club is expected to finalise negotiations with the Nomads before the end of the week.

“We already held preliminary discussions with our friends at Wanderers and we are hoping to finalise everything very soon.

“We are very serious about getting Gerald Jnr and Namwela on board and we already held fruitful talks with both players recently,” said Phiri.

He also disclosed that Caps are planning to visit the country for a couple of international friendly matches and they expect to conclude the deals during that time.

“We are still trying to make arrangements to come that side for a few friendly matches that will help us tune up for the new season, but it will be subject to confirmation,” said Phiri from Harare.

The Nomads’ general secretary David Kanyenda confirmed that the two teams are currently in talks over the two players’ prospective move as well as their proposed visit for friendly matches.
